For the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, Earth Day Initiative and March for Science NYC are approaching this uncertain time and looming crisis with a respect for science and facts. We have, like so many other organizations, made the difficult decision based on the facts before us to cancel our in-person Earth Day 50 events. Unfortunately, we should all probably be prepared for more and more of these difficult decisions. With the devastating effects of climate change ever more apparent every day, we must prepare for more uncertain times.

Given these difficult circumstances, we are using this moment to demonstrate what we can do to empower one another and connect with people around the world to move things in a positive direction, even when circumstances on the ground make it difficult to be with each other in person. We are building out an online platform and livestream video experience that will recreate our in-person events in an online format. Just as we were planning to have at our in-person events on April 19 to kick off Earth Week, we will have

  • A virtual stage of high-profile speakers, including public officials, activists, performers, and scientists (Some of our special guests include Elizabeth Warren and Joseph Gordon-Levitt!)

  • Virtual interactive presentations and workshops led by activists and scientists

  • Virtual exhibitor booths featuring environmental campaigns and sustainable causes

We are going to use the technology and tools available to us to demonstrate what activism can look like in the 21st Century.

Show up for Earth Day 50, not in person, but as part of the global connected community of people who want a better future!

Volunteers Needed for:
  • Social Media
  • Virtual Run of Show (moderators for Q&A and science panels)
  • Logistics (offering support for our exhibitors)

About March for Science NYC

Location:

740 Broadway, Manhattan, NY 10003, US

Mission Statement

March for Science New York City is a non-partisan platform formed by the greater scientific community. We stand for: 1) The open access of scientific information to the general public. 2) The use of science for the common good and in the preservation of an informed democracy. 3) The protection of human and environmental rights.

Description

The New York City March for Science recognizes the importance of an informed democracy in order to maintain a free, healthy, happy, and accessible society. That is why we come together as a community of non-partisan scientists and friends to show the importance of protecting and promoting people’s rights, the public’s access to scientific information, the environment in which we exist, and scientific research. We hope to use this march to spark increased community involvement for the promotion of science for the common good through sustained action.
