Do you have a passion for leading children in fun and inclusive outdoor programs?

Summer Counselor volunteer to assist Friends of Tryon Creek staff and instructors in facilitating a safe, fun and educational outdoor experience for Tryon Forest Adventures nature day camp program for groups of children from 6 - 14 years old as they hike and learn in the forest.
No previous experience needed!

Volunteer Position Requirements

  • Age 14 years and older

  • To confirm placements and supplement program costs families will pay a one-time fee. $20 for members and $50 for non-members. If this presents a barrier please reach out to us.

  • Time Commitment minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 4 weeks (preferred) taking place between June 23rd - August 29th, 2025.

  • In person group interviews, several date options in mid-May. (required)

  • Orientation Friday, June 20th 9am-3:30 pm (required)

Position Benefits:

  • Experience in a leadership role during a youth program

  • 52+ volunteer hours for school requirements

  • Resume-building skills such as customer service, class management experience, confidence building and public speaking

  • Individual mentoring with staff

  • Certificate of completion

  • Upon successful completion, a letter of recommendation can be written by Friends of Tryon Creek Staff
