ORGANIZATION: Habitat for Humanity of Snohomish County

Committee Purpose: The purpose of the Faith Relations Committee is to engage churches and other faith communities for volunteer and financial support of Habitat Snohomish’s mission of serving low-income families through affordable homeownership.

Committee Goals

The committee as a whole will be dedicated to the following goals:

  • Increase volunteer engagement in the faith community.
  • Hold faith leadership events and interfaith builds.
  • Engage faith organizations in print, email or social media campaigns.

Volunteer & Committee Responsibilities:

Faith Relations team members are responsible for:

  • Approaching clergy and lay leaders about involving their churches in Habitat Snohomish’s volunteer engagement activities.
  • Suggesting partnership possibilities to faith organizations that are in alignment with their ministry goals.
  • Supporting church leaders with promotional materials, making presentations to churches, answering questions and offering encouragement to church leadership.
  • Participating in monthly faith relations committee meetings. Participate in committee activities.

Preferred Skills/Abilities

Faith Relations team members should have:

  • The desire to lead congregations into a partnership with Habitat Snohomish.
  • Previous experience with outreach ministries of their own congregation.
  • Patience. Recruiting churches requires repeated contacts with church leadership: in person visits, phone calls, e-mail messages and postal mailings.
  • Willingness to make presentations to faith organizations and church leadership.
