A Free Bird is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization based in New York City. Our focus is to provide children, ages 4-18 who are patients or survivors of juvenile cancer, the opportunity to explore their artistic passions and give them the strength to fight their disease. We believe that artistic expression is critical for healing! A Free Bird supports children affected by cancer in their exploration of art, music, acting, poetry, writing, singing, and any other artistic passion they may have.
This role consists of assisting the Finance Department with all billing responsibilities to support A Free Bird’s mission statement and achieve the organization’s core objectives. Specifically, you will assess department funding needs to build forecasts for quarterly and annual budgets. It is expected that you track and record the status of all organizational contributions and spending in a timely manner. By understanding every aspect of A Free Bird’s operations, you will analyze the activity of each department to achieve optimal resource allocation. It will also be critical to document and update all nonprofit operational billing standards.
Assist in the drafting and finalization of bills, sending to recipients.
Communicate across all departments to maintain monthly statements and balances.
Prepare monthly billing statements for the entire organization.
Ensure billing and payment information is accurate and up to date.
Identify and resolve invoice disputes and errors.
Monitor the status and dates of bills.
Process and maintain invoices using a variety of tools.
Contribute to the development of a yearly budget.
Fluency in English
Has/is working towards a degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
2+ years maintaining detailed reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
Bookkeeping experience with exquisite attention to detail.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Extensive experience Google Drive and Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
Due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19 and its severity, this will be a remote work from home position. The organization has committed to our interns/volunteers’ health and we will adapt to the new working environment accordingly. Proper at-home working capabilities include Laptop, SmartPhone, and connection to WiFi/internet. Must be available to have a phone/video conversation at least once per week.

A Free Bird is a start-up non-profit organization dedicated to fighting childhood cancer through art and music therapy. We provide children aged 6 -18, who are diagnosed with cancer, the chance to pursue their passion for the arts.

A Free Bird addresses the needs of both children currently fighting cancer and of recovering children through two main programs Dream, FIGHT FREE and FREE.
