Little Essentials

Volunteers are the heart of Little Essentials!

We are always in need of volunteers to help us sort donated children's items at our warehouse in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. We welcome corporate groups, organizations/nonprofits, individuals and families who like to have fun as much as support an amazing cause!

Once donated items are sorted, we work with community partners including shelters and other nonprofits to distribute supplies to families in need. Since our founding, Little Essentials has served over 40,000 children in need.

Visit our website at https://www.littleessentials.org/volunteer to sign up for a volunteer session!

**Due to COVID-19, we are currently limiting the number of volunteers per session so that we can ensure social distancing. If you are interested in group volunteering, we may be able to schedule an offsite session for your team. We serve a population hit especially hard by COVID-19 and having your help makes a big impact at our organization!**

About Little Essentials

15 Warren Street, New York, NY 10007, US

Mission Statement

Little Essentials offers at-risk families living in poverty urgently needed children’s supplies and parenting education to promote the health, wellbeing and safety of their children under five years of age.

In June 2010, our founder, Sandie Trombert, saw a post on her neighborhood parenting listserv in Brooklyn that changed her life - and the lives of thousands of New York children living in poverty.

A volunteer at a city agency posted to the listserv that there was a pregnant mother living in a homeless shelter who was desperate for baby clothes.

Directly alongside her plea were posts from parents looking to give away surplus clothing, strollers, carseats and other items that their families no longer needed.

The contrast was striking.

Sandie immediately contacted the parents with items to give away. She drove around her neighborhood to collect the donations, then delivered them to the agency - all with her six-month-old baby in tow.

In the coming months, she became more involved in making connections between parents donating items and the agencies who help low-income families acquire much-needed essentials. In May of 2011 Little Essentials was born.

In the years since then, the organization has grown from something Sandie ran out of her living room to an established entity that, together with our partners and with the support of our sponsors, has served over 34,000 children living in poverty.
