ORGANIZATION: Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs

  • 6 people are interested

The Department of Cultural Affairs invites members of the community to apply to serve as a grants panelist. We are seeking individuals interested in reviewing applications for cultural grants funding from Miami-Dade County, through the Cultural Affairs Council and administered by the Department of Cultural Affairs. Each year the Department of Cultural Affairs relies on the services of many volunteer panelists, who review and evaluate grant applications and make funding recommendations. Panelists help maintain a fair and open process and assist in the continuous development of Miami-Dade County’s artistic and cultural communities by bringing their expertise to the panel review process. All panel meetings are open to the public.

Panels are comprised of artists, arts-related professionals, educators, community members, business leaders and others with current or prior active involvement in the arts. Many panelists are arts professionals who are qualified by their activities, training, skills, and/or experience in one or more art forms; however, we equally welcome arts enthusiasts, advocates and supporters to apply.

Panelists are expected to exercise integrity and fairness and adhere to the code of ethics and conflict of interest requirements that guide all of the Department’s work. The Department makes every effort to balance the composition of our panels by professional background; artistic discipline; organizational role and job function; geographic representation; diversity of gender expression, age, race/ethnicity and ability; as well as diverse aesthetic, institutional and cultural perspectives. The Department and the Council are committed to convening panels that are representative of our Miami-Dade County community.

Panelists serve in a volunteer capacity and are not compensated for their services. Refreshments may be provided during panel meetings depending on the duration of the panel meeting. For meetings that take place at our office building located at Government Center in downtown Miami (111 NW 1st Street), complimentary parking is provided at three nearby parking garages: 1. Cultural Center Garage across from the Main Library, 50 N.W. 2nd Avenue; Hickman Garage (Garage 5), 270 N.W. 2nd Street; and West Lot Garage, 220 N.W. 3rd Street. Our building is also accessible by Metromover and Metrorail at Government Center Station.

Panelists are selected on a rolling basis and will be contacted by the Department's grants team if selected. Interested individuals may nominate themselves. You may be invited to serve at various times throughout the fiscal year, depending on available panel opportunities. Opportunities are sometimes limited, therefore we cannot guarantee that all nominees will be selected to serve. Department staff will contact panelists by phone or email using the data entered on the nomination form, found by visiting this link: https://forms.gle/VgQkvDu7RY1v5yKx7.
