Title: Food Pantry Intern

Description:

Zaman International is seeking an intern to join our team. This is a great opportunity for a student seeking a career in social work, nutrition and food sciences, marketing, business, non-profit management or liberal arts.

The intern will primarily be working in our client-choice food pantry. Their tasks will include welcoming, guiding, and assisting clients in shopping for food and household items with allotted vouchers and keeping record of purchases in client files. The intern will also enter data from clients’ shopping in Zaman’s online database. They will assist with receiving, storing, and stocking of food and household products while ensuring proper product rotation and quality.

Hours are flexible, with a minimum of 12 hours per week. This position is available April through August, with flexible beginning and end dates.

Projects / Learning Outcomes:

The intern will be supervised by the social workers in the Bayt Al Zahra Client Services department and staff in the pantry, alongside volunteers in the pantry. The intern will learn cross-team communications and project management skills, as well as client care.

This is a great opportunity to enhance skills in organization, multi-tasking, and communication across disciplines. This position will include direct contact with clients, and is also a great way to learn about nutrition, social work, and non-profit processes.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • General retail knowledge and experience working with clients or customers
  • Strong communication (oral, writing and presentation) skills
  • Detail orientation
  • Professional presence and demeanor
  • Ability to work well in team setting
  • Bilingual (English/Arabic) proficiency required

  • Works closely with a variety of people on a daily basis.
  • Work is primarily in the context of a warehouse, exposure to machinery/vehicles, high noise levels and the weather are not uncommon.
  • Position involves significant physical exertion on a regular basis, including moderate lifting and carrying.
