ORGANIZATION: Redeemer Health HomeCare and Hospice - Ocean County

  • 1 person is interested

Holy Redeemer HomeCare and Hospice - Ocean County office is looking for those who can sew to craft keepsake Teddy Bears for survivors of someone on our service. The material for these Teddy Bears is the clothing of the deceased loved-one, provided by the family members requesting these keepsakes; this is what makes them unique and very special.

We will host a training to orient new Sewing Enthusiast Volunteers to the nuances of the pattern used. This training is a pair of Saturday mornings, about a month apart: dates to be announced, but will be based on those who are interested in joining.

This project has been operating at the Mercer County office for about 3 years with overwhelming appreciation from those who take advantage of this program. Having a close reminder of their loved-one, to squeeze and hug at moments when the loss is palpable, is a simple gift to help ease a hard time.

This is an on-going volunteer project. Once trained, our hope is that each volunteer will be able to make 1 Teddy Bear each month, for most months of the year. (Yes, snow birds are welcome.) Please, only step forward if you have a sincere interest to make these special keepsakes for others.

I need to say that this is NOT a teaching-to-sew class. You must already know how to sew, at a minimum skill level of being able to 'make a sleeve.’ Also, this is a machine-sewing project... NOT hand sewing.

If you are interested in being part of this new sewing group, please reply to this post for more information and to register for the class.
