ORGANIZATION: East Somerville Main Streets

East Somerville Main Streets in collaboration with the Somerville Arts Council and the City of Somerville Somerstreets will host its 10 th annual CARNAVAL on Sunday, June 2 nd from 2pm-6pm on Broadway.

Last year the festival attracted about 6,000 visitors from East Somerville and the greater Boston area, making it the most successful Carnaval to date! Streets were closed to cars, but open to thousands of people to enjoy awesome music, performances from community groups, children's activities, and food from all over the world.

  • Table Set-Up and Break down
  • Performer and volunteer check-in
  • Green room monitor
  • Dunk Tank helpers
  • Mask making
  • Event photographer (experience necessary)
  • Opening parade marshal
  • Stage Managers
  • Bouncy house monitors
  • Event survey distributers
  • And more...

Interested volunteers should contact Jen Atwood at Director@EastSomervilleMainStreets.org. Please include name, contact info and preferred volunteer position and preferred volunteer shift times.

Thank you,

Jennifer Atwood

Mission Statement

Our mission is to improve the life of our community by building investment, connection and pride in our main street. We do this through a variety of ways including: - Strengthening the role of the East Broadway Business District as a commercial center for the eastern half of Somerville and western part of Charlestown - Promoting the East Broadway Business District as a remarkable and unique cultural destination, known for celebrating its traditions and heritage and maintaining the community’s diversity. - Enhancing social connectedness within the neighborhood.

Description

"When East Somerville Main Streets started, each business worked more or less alone to grow. At the start, East Somerville Main Streets worked to build a relationship with each of the restaurant owners and then to bring us together as a community. Problem-solving has gotten a lot easier. We now solve our problems through communicating; we know who to talk to or where to address something and we can speak through one voice." - Befekadu Defar, Owner of Fasika
