The second neighborhood is in collaboration with the City of Somerville’s Sustainaville week and the City’s Annual city-wide Clean-Up Day on Saturday May 4th.
Join the City of Somerville, Groundwork Somerville and Comcast as we celebrate spring and get together with neighbors to beautify our community spaces. The annual Spring Clean Up/Comcast Cares Day is a city-wide clean up and gardening day spread across 11 different sites throughout Somerville. Come out to get our public spaces ready to be used for the spring and summer ahead!
Schedule for the day:
9am-10am: Kickoff & breakfast provided by Comcast at the Boathouse
10am-12pm: Cleaning at sites around Somerville
Come for the entire time, or go straight to any of the cleanup sites to volunteer! If joining for breakfast, volunteers are responsible for their own transportation from the Boathouse to their cleanup site and back.
Cleaning in East Somerville begins at 10am at East Branch Library (115 Broadway)
Comcast will once again provide generous sponsorship for this cleanup. The more volunteers show up, the more support Comcast gives! T-shirts will be provided by Comcast to all participants!
RSVP encouraged but not required! RSVP at:

Mission Statement
Our mission is to improve the life of our community by building investment, connection and pride in our main street. We do this through a variety of ways including: - Strengthening the role of the East Broadway Business District as a commercial center for the eastern half of Somerville and western part of Charlestown - Promoting the East Broadway Business District as a remarkable and unique cultural destination, known for celebrating its traditions and heritage and maintaining the community’s diversity. - Enhancing social connectedness within the neighborhood.
Description
"When East Somerville Main Streets started, each business worked more or less alone to grow. At the start, East Somerville Main Streets worked to build a relationship with each of the restaurant owners and then to bring us together as a community. Problem-solving has gotten a lot easier. We now solve our problems through communicating; we know who to talk to or where to address something and we can speak through one voice." - Befekadu Defar, Owner of Fasika
