Docent engagement at work!
Bainbridge Island Museum of Art Docent Jane Purinton engages a group of students in conversation about the work of artist Steve Parmelee.

Gallery Docents continually rotate through both floors of our museum, supervising and interpreting exhibitions and engaging guests and artists in active and meaningful art conversations.

This role serves as an arts ambassador -- directly coordinating with and supporting our Gallery and Volunteer Manager, as well as our Curatorial Associates, and Curatorial Dept.

Growth opportunities include the ability to interact with and demonstrate select artworks, to lead group tours and to assist the Curatorial Dept. and BIMA Staff with other museum-related tasks, projects or events.

Although this opportunity occurs on-site, you do not have to live on island nor have an art background--just possess a love of the arts, love meeting and talking with people from all over the world, and love learning.

Dress with museum representation in mind (smart casual); wear comfortable shoes.

We will teach you how to share with visitors the diversity of artists and forms of creativity endemic to our region. Apply online at: https://www.volgistics.com/appform/1269489951

Adults and teens age 18+ applicants with permission to perform a background check, and accept our volunteer agreement.

Location:

550 Winslow Way East, BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WA 98110, US

Mission Statement

The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is an educational institution whose mission is to engage a diverse population with the art and craft of our region and our time.

Description

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is a collecting museum with a focus on artists and collections from the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas, as well as the broader Puget Sound region. Located just adjacent to the Seattle/Bainbridge Island ferry terminal at the corner of Highway 305 and the main street of Bainbridge, Winslow Way, the new art museum is a welcoming landmark and a prominent community resource for quality arts education and lifelong learning. Admission to the art museum is free through sponsors and members.

The art museum features themes and artists ranging from emerging and lesser known artists to recognized masters. The exhibitions will rotate on a regular basis - typically with the seasons and will amount to 12-16 shows per year. Education is a core value and is a primary function of the art museum to promote art education for people of all ages, interests, abilities, and skill levels.

We have gallery tours, artist talks, panel discussions, films, print and digital publications, hands-on art activities are featured in the classrooms, and in the 95-seat auditorium we host artist lectures, films, classical films, poetry and theatrical readings, musical performances, and community meetings.
