Innovative Housing Opportunities, Inc. (IHO) is a non-profit with a mission to enrich communities by providing high-quality affordable housing, impactful resident services, and Economic Self-Reliance programs to those most in need. Description:

The Financial Educator will have the opportunity to lead workshops, work in groups, and one-on-one to empower our residents with financial tools they need to reach financial stability and self-sufficiency. The volunteer will work with working family adults living in affordable housing. The Financial Educator will play a crucial role to make a difference in our residents’ lives.

Worksite Location:

Irvine, CA

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Implement IHO’s financial curriculum by leading financial education workshops on topics such as budgeting, savings, credit, etc.
  • Implement engaging activities to enhance resident’s learning
  • Stay up to date with financial trends, resources, and services
  • Track resident progress through pre/post evaluations
  • Conduct timely and organized record-keeping of workshops and residents
  • Maintain confidentiality of all client information
  • Work closely with Resident Service Coordinator and have regular check-ins to ensure success of volunteer, residents, and workshops
  • IHO encourages our volunteers to be creative and take ownership of our lesson plans and make it their own!

Qualifications:

  • Dependable and punctual
  • Excellent communication skills (especially with diverse population)
  • Possess enthusiasm, patience, a sense of fun, concern for safety
  • Self-motivating and able to work effectively with a minimum of supervision
  • Bachelors degree or relevant work experience (i.e. financial or education background) preferred, but not required. Training will be provided.

Time Commitment:
Minimum of one day / two hours per week for at minimum three months

Requirements:

  • Complete all required enrollment documents
  • Attend volunteer orientation
  • Comply with terms found in IHO volunteer policy
  • Dress code is presentable attire (non-ripped jeans, no shorts, closed toe shoes, shirts must cover back and shoulders)
  • Reliable transportation and is required to maintain proof of automobile insurance and a valid driver’s license
