Straight Talk Counseling (STC) serves the Orange County’s vulnerable populations with a variety of mental health needs. Through offering quality counseling services, prevention classes, psychotherapy, and other specialized programs, STC strives to heal and support the individuals, families, or children to rebuild their lives with healthier mental capacity. Since 1971, tens of thousands of individuals and family members have received no cost or low-cost services from STC.

The organization is expanding with brand new initiatives to increase our visibility and services. In order to meet new and changing demands, we need additional staff to support our office administrative team to help us build a stronger foundation. The hours are flexible and volunteers are welcome to work in our office while getting to know our fun and dedicated team of professionals.

Administrative Assistant/Program Support volunteer opportunities are designed to familiarize individuals with the structure and workflow of how non-profit community mental health organizations operate. These are excellent opportunities for those who are interested in gaining an inside look of a counseling center.
We offer our volunteers with the opportunity to learn new skills (e.g., office administrative duties, documentation, etc.), explore your passion and, most importantly, give something back to your local community.


Volunteers’ duties include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following responsibilities that support STC’s administrative needs
  • Assist in the preparation of regularly scheduled reports
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a filing system
  • Assist in ordering office supplies
  • Assist in carrying out administrative duties such as filing, typing, copying, binding, scanning, etc.
  • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Photocopy and print out documents on behalf of office staff


  • Enjoy meeting people
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • General office practices and procedures
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Works well independently and as a part of a team
  • Ability to handle office equipment (fax/copy machines, etc.
Benefits and recognition

This position provides valuable experience with operational responsibilities in a nonprofit organization, and a mental health counseling center setting. Volunteers are highly valued members of the STC team as we believe our volunteers can make a significant difference to achieving STC's mission. STC will provide reference letters for all volunteers who successfully complete a placement.

Straight Talk Clinic is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1971 to serve families and individuals seeking low or no-cost counseling services and mental health treatment, and/or related services. We have been a pioneer to promote and provide accessible, affordable and effective prevention and intervention services for children and families across Orange County. Straight Talk Clinic’s sliding-fee scale, evening and weekend hours counseling programs address the special needs of low-income groups including children, adolescents, parents, couples, and seniors.
