Bike Brigade Volunteers will ride 1 of 2 adult tricycles to deliver meals to men and women living in the streets close by to the Catholic Charities Hickey Center located downtown at 924 G Street NW. This role will help us to expand our outreach to those individuals living on the streets who are hungry and to share with them the other services they can access at Catholic Charities.

Support the St. Maria’s Meals program by delivering meals, sharing the resources Catholic Charities has to offer, and building relationships with folks experiencing homelessness.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and be comfortable riding a tricycle in downtown DC. Volunteers with strong interpersonal skills who are outgoing, calm, and adaptable to change are preferred.

Prior to riding the tricycle, we ask that new volunteers practice riding down the sidewalk street, review route, and receive street outreach training. A supervisor will be accessible on site or by phone throughout the event.

Location: The Hickey Center, 924 G St. NW, Washington, DC 20001 , accessible by Metro Center and Gallery-Place Metro Stops (Blue, Orange, Silver, Red, Yellow, and Green lines)

Time Commitment: 2 volunteers needed every Wednesday from 3:45pm - 5:15pm

Mission Statement

Catholic Charities is the social ministry outreach of the Archdiocese of Washington. Motivated by the Gospel message of Jesus Christ, and guided by Catholic social and moral teaching, Catholic Charities strengthens the lives of all in need by giving help that empowers and hope that lasts. To this end we affirm and support the dignity of all human life, strengthen families and serve the poor and most vulnerable.

For more than 80 years, families, children and adults in need of help and hope have been able to turn to Catholic Charities to find comprehensive, caring and competent support. Last year our 63 programs working in 48 locations across the District of Columbia and the surrounding Maryland counties served more than 126,000 men, women and children of all economic, religious and social backgrounds.
