Spend Earth Day nurturing growth in your community with Johnson Creek Watershed Council!
Join JCWC and the City of Gresham for a fun and important day of plant care and connecting with new friends and neighbors! We'll be meeting at Liberty Ave. (AKA Ochioto) site to mulch new plantings and remove invasive species around them that hinder biodiversity.
WHY: Mulching provides many benefits to new plantings. Aside from helping with weed control, mulch retains water in the soil around new plantings and contributes to soil health. Often, precious mycelium (AKA fungi) develops in the barkdust and other organic material used to mulch. Mycelium looks like a white, web-like material. And the mushrooms we see are actually more like blossoms that emerge from the vegetative mycelium below. It helps break everything down into fresh new soil, and even acts as a vast web of communication between trees and other plants that lie beneath the ground surface.
Please RSVP so we know how many people to expect. We look forward to working with you!
