ORGANIZATION: Light Bringer Project

LitFest Pasadena is a festival of books and authors from all over Los Angeles. It takes place in the historic Playhouse District in Pasadena, and is free to the public. Volunteers are needed as site coordinators, check-in table for authors, ushering, providing information to guests, help in set-up of panels, water, name cards, for introductions, placing signage. Be part of a great team with a passion to make a difference! We are especially looking for adults and all-day volunteers; otherwise two shifts per day and times may vary slightly according to roles.

We wish to inspire youth, by building an understanding and appreciation for their own creative voices to become engaged, well-rounded human beings. And we wish to engage the public in original art acts, and arts experiences that draw them closer to the world of art and the stories of our lives.

Description

Through the 1990’s, Light Bringer Project became an active producer of visual, performing and literary arts programs that highlighted creative 'voices’ from all sectors of the community. Arts & Learning Programs

  • In association with the Mental Health, Light Bringer Project produces Expressing Feeling Through Art, a prevention program that exhibits outstanding artworks and provides scholarships for students of the Los Angeles County School System.
  • Begun in 2000, the Ad&Design program has offered mentorship training, team building and portfolio development for upper-level high school students.
  • Working with the College and Career Pathways division in the Pasadena Unified School District, we deliver mentors, artist workshops, job shadow and career days, along with field trips to inspiring arts companies to high school students.
  • LocavoreLitLA is an online literary journal and a free resource for teachers wishing to present stories and writing lessons with curriculum to boot.
  • Room 13 remains a unique in-school and afterschool arts program serving 1,963 students at five public schools in the PUSD. Each studio provides arts practice guided by a trained Artist-in-Residence who helps student participants determine the scope and content of their own projects.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 17
  • We are looking for volunteers who can do various roles including managers for each location on a given day, with some back up. So all-day volunteers are desired. We also have 5 hour shifts. These hours may vary per roles.
  • We are looking for adults. We are a festival that takes place in a block or two of a district. So walking form command post to location may be a block or two. Each location will have a set up and a line up of programming. We are indoor and outdoor.
