Position Title:

Treasurer, Board of Directors

Responsibilities of the Board of Directors:

  • A panel of decision makers elected by the organization’s membership or Board of Directors.
  • The Directors are responsible for formulating the policy decisions affecting the corporation.
  • The Directors are responsible for determining the organization’s vision, mission and purpose.
  • The Directors select, manage and evaluate the chief executive.
  • The Directors ensure effective organizational planning.
  • The Directors ensure adequate funding and resource development for the organization.
  • The Directors provide oversight for the organization’s financial management.
  • Directors evaluate and monitor the organization’s programs and services.
  • Directors enhance the organization’s public standing and engender good will.
  • Directors ensure that the Board continues to develop and function at a high level.
  • Directors ensure accountability as well as legal and ethical integrity

Responsible To:

President, Board of Directors

Responsibilities of Individual Directors:

  • Attendance and participation: meetings (board & committee), functions, special events
  • Represent DMFHC in the broader community - keep informed about DMFHC mission, services, policies, programs and can inform others about them
  • Commit time to develop financial resources
  • Assists the board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities
  • Follow conflict of interest and confidentiality policies
  • Suggest and recruit nominees to the board who can make a significant contribution to the work of DMFHC
  • Provide leadership to board committees. Each board director is expected to serve as an active, ongoing member of at least one committee by assuming operational responsibility of the committee
  • Prepare, in advance, for decision-making and policy formation at board meetings; take responsibility for self-education on the major issues before the board
  • Responsibly review and act upon committee recommendations brought to the board for action
  • In general, utilize personal and professional skills, relationships and knowledge for the advancement of DMFHC

Requirements:

  1. Financial knowledge of the organization.
  2. Personal commitment to devote the time necessary to perform the responsibilities of Treasurer.
  3. Understanding of financial accounting for nonprofit organizations.

The Denver Metro Fair Housing Center (DMFHC) is the voice of fair housing in Metro Denver. DMFHC works to eliminate housing discrimination and to promote housing choice for all people through education, advocacy, and enforcement.

Description

The DMFHC educates the community about fair housing laws, responds to discrimination complaints, conducts investigations, and acts as a private enforcement agency enforcing fair housing laws, in the area of rental, sales, lending, and other real estate related transactions.
