As the VISTA volunteer, you will support WellShare’s capacity building and sustainability through the development of new fundraising activities and communication efforts to raise funds and visibility and by assisting our current Minnesota community-based public health programs. Join us and carry out life-changing work to reduce health disparities within refugee and immigrant communities in Minnesota.

The mission of WellShare International is to advance sustainable community health around the world. WellShare International works with refugee and immigrant populations in Minnesota and also implements community health programs in East Africa. This program will focus solely on our work in Minnesota. As the VISTA volunteer, you will support WellShare’s capacity building and sustainability through the development of new fundraising activities and communication efforts to raise funds and visibility and by assisting our current Minnesota community-based public health programs. WellShare has over 15 innovative public health programs, and we are eager to engage more students and community members in our work.

This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program, operated by Minnesota Campus Compact. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, food, and basic needs through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development.

Member duties
Help plan and implement new fundraising activities; assist in research and creation of blog posts featuring WellShare events & activities; organize WellShare’s YouTube channel to increase visibility of videos; create images and templates on Canva; create visually appealing newsletter templates and content for email campaigns using MailChimp; research and implement new ideas and activities to increase numbers of people who are signed up for WellShare’s email listserv; create high-quality PowerPoint presentations on WellShare’s different services and resources for health care providers as well as community members; in collaboration with the program manager(s) assist in the creation of short videos to enhance visibility of specific projects; work on marketing efforts and analysis of the outcomes of newly created community health worker materials; create an evaluation of a newly planned diabetes care approach for Somali community members.
