*Morning, evening, and weekend shifts available starting November 1st, 2023!
In the position of Veteran Companion Volunteer, you will serve as an important team member on the Fargo VA Health Care System's Community Living Center. You will be able to honor and give back to Veterans by providing companionship during extended facility stays.
Some of the tasks in this position might include: listening to and visiting with Veterans, reading to or with Veterans, assisting in writing letters or cards, playing music with or for Veterans, playing cards or games, doing puzzles, craft kits, taking Veterans on walks within the medical center, escorting Veterans to the Canteen store, appointments or basic recreational therapy activities and outings.
*Please note that volunteers in this position are not allowed to attend medically to any Veteran patients including transfers/lifts, toileting, or performing basic cares.
Current openings:
Monday: 10am-12, 1-4pm, or 6-8pm
Tuesday: 10am-12, 1-4pm, or 6-8pm
Wednesday: 10am-12, 1-4pm, or 6-8pm
Thursday: 10am-12, 1-4pm, or 6-8pm
Friday: 10am-12, 1-4pm, or 6-8pm
Saturday: 1-4pm, or 6-8pm
As this position involves working directly with hospitalized patients, VA policy requires that volunteers and staff wear a face mask while interacting with patients (provided by VA).
