Aramburu Island Habitat Restoration 8/10/19

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Richardson Bay Audubon Center & Sanctuary

The project site is located in Richardson Bay, a short boat ride or kayak paddle from our center in Tiburon. The 17-acre island, Aramburu, was created in the early 1960s by dredge spoils and fill from nearby development. Visiting Aramburu Island Sanctuary offers volunteers a great opportunity to view resting and foraging waterbirds. The main task of each volunteer event is to restore the island due to wintering waterbirds using it as a resting spot. We will be watering native species and pulling invasive ones, and requires some bending over. The work is moderately strenuous.

We encourage our volunteers to bring:

  • Good shoes and clothes they don’t mind getting dirty
  • Snacks and/or lunch
  • Water bottle

Those under 16 are REQUIRED to bring an adult volunteer with them. When you RSVP make sure to register all individuals. We are restricted in the number of volunteers we can bring due to the size of our boat, so RSVPS are required. Please email ftorres@audubon.org to RSVP. Thank you!
