Playworks is a national non-profit serving 22 different regions across the United States. Our mission is to introduce respectful, inclusive, and healthy play to elementary school playgrounds, with the goal of empowering students to make new friends, settle conflicts on their own, and use their energy productively so they can transition back to class focused and ready to learn. Playworks provides each of our partner schools with a full-time coach, who is responsible for implementing our program throughout the school year. In the Spring, our AmeriCorps Coaches plan a Community Engagement Initiative designed to address a need in their school community, such as increasing parent engagement, promoting physical fitness, or painting lines on the playground.

Our AmeriCorps Coach serving Brentwood Academy in East Palo Alto has planned a 2 hour event after school where students and their families are encouraged to learn and play Playworks games together with the help of Junior Coaches, 4th and 5th grade students participating in our Junior Coach Leadership Program. Coach Ngoc needs volunteers to help her with set up and clean up, participant and volunteer sign up, food stations, and providing Junior Coaches with support at their game stations.

This event is designed to be a fun and positive experience for community members in East Palo Alto, and is the perfect volunteer opportunity for playful and enthusiastic individuals.
