Volunteer to call past recipients of the donated equipment to ask questions about patient’s well-being. Has the patient fallen, been to the emergency room, been re-admitted to the hospital and what is the degree of patient independence? Also inquire if the patient is done with the equipment and if they wish to re-donate it. Volunteer can do the number of patients per month that they choose and can work from home.

Our mission is to acquire and provide mobility related rehabilitative equipment to individuals in need to help them regain lost mobility and maximize their independence and quality of life. Our goal is to establish Assist M.E. as the go-to organization for advocacy on behalf of and providing assistance to individuals with mobility disabilities in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg community.

Description

Assist ME takes in gently used medical equipment, such as standard manual wheelchairs, bedside commodes, tub transfer benches, shower chairs, etc. ), clean them up and gift them to low income, uninsured patients. When patients have this type of equipment, they fall less often and are readmitted to hospitals less often.

  • Must be at least 18

  • The time commitment can be tailored to the schedule of the caller. We want to work through the list of those who have received equipment but there are no deadlines.
  • Person should be comfortable doing a phone interview with a person who has received donated equipment from Assist ME and writing the information into a form or spreadsheet.
