Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle is seeking volunteer tutors to assist adults in learning how to read, write, or speak English.

Our next New Tutor Training is on Saturday, May 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Jefferson School City Center. Lunch will be provided by Sticks Kebob Shop.

For more information or to register, please call 434-977-3838.

We're looking for more dedicated volunteers to tutor adults in reading, writing, and speaking English. Many of our students are refugees and immigrants working hard to establish themselves in our community. With your help, they can gain the valuable skills they need to be better-informed workers, consumers, parents, and citizens.

This training is for adults 18 and older. No teaching experience required. We train you to tutor an adult student in reading, writing, and English skills. Most of our tutor/student pairs meet for two hours a week at a mutually convenient time and place. We ask for a year-long commitment.

As a tutor, you will receive a rewarding experience knowing that you’ve helped someone achieve their goals and be more integrated in our community.
