ORGANIZATION: Santa Barbara-ALTERNATIVES TO VIOLENCE PROJECT

  • 8 people are interested

A chance to create a website that actually shows the Latinx participants' experience that this incredible organization does: offering an Alternatives to Violence Experience to youth and adults that changes how they look at themselves and experience others.
We have a website now, but it doesn't really represent what we do which is:
Offer 20-hour weekend workshops to teens who are referred to us as a result of being suspended by the school district
These workshops started in prisons 45 years ago by teams of inmates, Martin Luther King staff and Quakers. Now they are worldwide and working with youth in Santa Barbara

We need help sifting out what we should say and include and what we don't need to.
PLease let us know what you think you can do. check out www.sbavp.org

Description

Who is SBAVP?

The Santa Barbara Alternatives to Violence Project is a multicultural volunteer organization that is dedicated to reducing interpersonal violence in our society, exploring different ways of handling conflict, and bringing people together as we seek to better understand one another. SBAVP has offered laughter-filled community workshops in Santa Barbara since 1992. We also offer workshops at the Lompoc Federal Prison! SBAVP is part of AVP California, AVP USA, and AVP International.

Our Approach:

SBAVP offers workshops that aid participants in discovering new conflict management tools, learning about relationships and communication, and building leadership skills, thus enabling individuals to:

  • Build successful interpersonal interactions
  • Reflect and gain deeper insights into themselves
  • Find positive, new approaches to life

The Result:

These experiential workshops empower individuals not only to liberate themselves from the burden of violence, but also to become leaders in their communities.
