Do you want to get connected in the community of Boulder, be a part of preserving our history, and help people create memorable experiences? Then volunteering with the Museum of Boulder is the perfect fit for you!

We're looking for energetic, ready-to-learn individuals interested in filling a variety of volunteer needs at the new Museum of Boulder. If you are good with people and want to help visitors discover all that the Museum of Boulder has to offer, we would love to have you as a Gallery Attendant!

Our Gallery Attendants are a critical part of ensuring visitors have the best experience possible and preserving artifacts on display so that they can last for generations. You will have a weekly shift (or more than one--it's up to you!) that lasts for around 3 hours. During this shift, you will be stationed in one of our exciting exhibits to greet visitors, answer questions, and enforce gallery rules in a polite but firm manner to help maintain the integrity of artifacts. When the exhibit is empty, you're welcome to study or read a book, making this a great position for students. Seating will be available, so you will not need to be on your feet the entire time. We are especially interested in English/Spanish bilingual volunteers and/or volunteers fluent in American Sign Language.

No experience? No problem! We'll provide all necessary training and support you in whatever way we can. All you need is a willingness to learn, ability to commit for one full semester (~3 months), and excitement about engaging with the community. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the history of Boulder and support a local institution.

About Museum of Boulder

Location:

2205 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80302, US

Mission Statement

The Museum of Boulder provides engaging educational experiences for people to explore the continuing history of the Boulder region. The Museum collects, preserves, and presents Boulder history in order to connect to the past, provide a context for the present, and inspire a vision for the future.

Description

For many years, the Museum was a small, volunteer run organization. Support came from memberships, contributions and small grants. In 1997, a longtime member of the Museum made a remarkable bequest of $7,500,000 to the Museum. The receipt of the Trust began a period of slow, deliberate growth for the organization and its professional staff. For example, in 2000, the Museum had no programs in place for schools and exhibitions were developed on a shoestring budget. Over the years we have made great strides in providing Boulder with nationally touring exhibits as well as developing exhibits based on Boulder stories including Native Americans, aerospace history, natural foods, sports and beer. We are reaching thousands of school children in the Museum and through outreach programs, with some of the highest quality education programs in the region. We have become a visible and reliable source of information in the Boulder community, as well as a place to bring friends and family.

In April 2013, the Museum purchased the Masonic Lodge building in downtown Boulder. We embarked on a capital campaign to convert this building into the Museum of Boulder. It is now a state-of-the-art museum that explores not only the roots of our community, but the accomplishments today that will be history tomorrow; it brings the community together for exploration and conversations about issues facing Boulder today and in the future.
