The Jon and Bobbe Bridge Drop-In Child Care Center is located at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA and is open weekdays from 8:15 a.m. to 11:55 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m 8 a.m. Ideally, because of the time it takes to onboard and train a volunteer we would like to have volunteers commit to at least one 4-hour shift per week for at least 6 months. The time can be very busy or very slow without any way of predicting. Provide care for children ages 1-12 whose parents/caregivers are conducting business at the Spokane County Courthouse. As this is a drop-in program, there may be some periods of downtime or high activity, depending on the needs of parents/caregivers on any given day.

  • Respect the privacy of children, families, and staff; abide by the Volunteer Program’s confidentiality policies
  • Provide stable support and care for children whose families are often involved in stressful court proceedings
  • Assist program staff in light cleaning and organization of the room

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Available for a scheduled 3-hour shift on the same day and time each week for at least 6 months; shifts are typically available between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday
  • Ability to interact with a variety of people. Respect for diverse lifestyles, cultures, religions, and values
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 40 pounds

Preferred:

  • Previous volunteer experience
  • Experience in a children’s welfare or non-profit setting
  • Bi-lingual

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to take directions
  • Ability to respect and maintain confidential information
  • Ability to follow verbal & written instructions
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills
  • Dependable, responsible, and punctual
  • Recognizes limitations and asks for help when unsure
  • Awareness of cultural competency; sensitivity in working with diverse cultures

ORIENTATION & TRAINING

New Childcare Volunteers will maintain compliance with CHSW and program-specific standards in regard to competencies, safety, confidentiality, and infection control:

  • Pass Criminal Background Check
  • Complete initial New Volunteer Training and site-specific orientation
  • Learn and know infection control, CHSW safety, and emergency protocols
  • Review and follow policies and guidelines outlined in Volunteer Policies & Program Assignment handout
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and other volunteers
  • Maintain regular communication with Volunteer
