Do you enjoy: meeting new people? Making new friends? Working with the public? Helping others? Please be a Patient Visitor in the hospital.
Volunteers who visit patients in the hospital are truly "Ambassadors of Goodwill." Patient Visitation volunteers provide companionship, caring, and emotional support at a much-needed time. They listen carefully, taking genuine interest in the people the meet. They recognize the concerns associated with illness and communicate in ways that bring caring and hope into the lives of the patients they visit.
In a large hospital, with many out-of-town patients who may not have friends or family nearby, having someone to talk to can be important. Or maybe the patient just wants to visit with someone not as closely involved as family.
Schedule: Flexible 2-3 hour shifts between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. M-F. (Not available evenings or weekends) Additional training required beyond general volunteer orientation; consists of shadowing experienced volunteers. Excellent opportunity for retirees, stay-at-home parents, individuals between jobs, or for nursing and pre-med college students. Prefer volunteer who can commit to a weekly or bi-weekly schedule.
