Pastoral care volunteers serve as members of the Haven Hospice team and work closely with staff chaplains to provide emotional and spiritual support and comfort to patients and families. They assist in the planning and coordination of memorial services and act as liaisons for Haven Hospice in the religious communities served. Volunteers wishing to provide direct care services to patients and families must complete a 8-hour volunteer training program, as well as a screening process that includes a reference check, a background check, a TB test, and a personal interview. Those who have experienced the death of a loved one must wait at least one year before volunteering with patients and families. This opportunity has locations in the Gainesville, Lake City, Chiefland, Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Deland and Palatka areas. Ages 18 and up are welcome to volunteer.
