During these uncertain times, how can we help?
See below to access our COVID-19 Resource Hub, and to explore our growing directory of COVID-19-specific and virtual volunteering opportunities.
Bereavement volunteers work with the Healing Hearts Program to reach out to grieving families and individuals. They assist with support groups for both adults and children affected by the loss of a loved one. They also provide support by phone and assist in the planning and coordination of memorial services and holiday programs that offer a time of remembrance and reflection. Volunteers wishing to provide direct care services to patients and families must complete a 5-hour volunteer training program, as well as a screening process that includes a reference check, a background check, a TB test, and a personal interview. After training, a one-year volunteer commitment is required. Those who have experienced the death of a loved one must wait at least one year before volunteering with patients and families. This opportunity has locations in the Gainesville, Lake City, Chiefland, Jacksonville, Orange Park and Palatka areas. Ages 18 and up are welcome to volunteer.
