This opportunity is for individuals interested in helping students in the Inglewood community improve their grades and build their confidence. Homework Helpers will assist children in grades K-12 with specific assignments and/or help them practice reading and math skills. We are now accepting applicants for the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year.
Responsibilities:
- Work patiently and encouragingly with children and their parents.
- Commit to volunteering once a week for 2 months.
- Each sessions will be at least 1 hour.
- Must be at least 15.5 years old
- Proficiency in school subjects, especially math and language arts.
- Ability to communicate clearly and flexibly with diverse learners and parents.
- Desire to work with children and/or teenagers (prior experience recommended).

All applicants must possess valid California identification (school IDs are accepted for current high school students). A screening and interview process will be used to select volunteers. Regrettably, we will be unable to accept all applicants as volunteers.
Applicants who are selected will need to provide documentation of tuberculosis clearance from within the past 5 years. Applicants ages 18 years or older will also need to complete Live Scan fingerprinting and agree to a background check.

Description
The Parks, Recreation and Library Services Department is charged with enhancing the quality of life for Inglewood residents, businesses and visitors through the provision of comprehensive recreational, social and community beautification services and programs. The Department consists of four Divisions - Parks, Recreation and Cultural, Human Services and Library Services - with the following goals:
- Provide comprehensive recreational, Library and community service programs for youth, families and senior citizens.
- Promote broad access to parks, recreational, and library facilities.
- Expand opportunities for cultural enrichment.
- Maintain a high level of service and maintenance in City parks, parkways, center medians, islands, alleys and trees located on City property.
- Promote community beautification and foster neighborhood preservation through responsive and professional anti-graffiti activities
Our ultimate goal is to help individuals enjoy life.
