If you love working with children, have a passion for art, and want to give back to Dallas schools, Go van Gogh is the volunteer program for you! Go van Gogh school outreach volunteers lead experiences in Dallas elementary classrooms that encourage students to practice visual literacy and critical thinking by looking closely at works of art and express creativity through art-making activities.
School year programs are 60 to 90 minutes in length and consist of an interactive presentation, anchored by artworks in the Museum's collection, followed by an art-making activity. Programs are scheduled on weekday mornings at schools across Dallas. Volunteers are asked to teach two programs per month from late September to mid-May. Volunteers may either carpool with staff in the Go van Gogh minivan or meet at the program site.
In the 2019-2020 school year, we will offer a Spanish-language Go van Gogh program that centers on themes related to Latino and Latin American art and culture. Spanish-language skills are required to lead this particular program but are not required for all of our other Go van Gogh school outreach programs. Additionally, English fluency is not required to lead our Spanish-language program. Previous experience teaching or working with youth is strongly recommended for all Go van Gogh volunteers.
Interested volunteers must attend training sessions held on Tuesday mornings at the DMA in August and September. All Go van Gogh volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and must undergo a two-part screening process including free DISD volunteer registration and a background check through Verified Volunteers.
We are currently accepting applications for Go van Gogh volunteers: https://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/ap?ap=140266725
