JOIN US FOR A FUN DAY AT THE BEACH!
You will have a blast sharing a day at the beach with kids with special needs. No experience or special skills required.
We’ll have the following activities, depending on conditions:
- Tandem surfing
- Body-boarding
- Beach obstacle course
Volunteers arrive before 8 am to sign in, get a cool t-shirt, help us set-up and attend the volunteer orientation. You will then be paired with a participant to help them make the most of their day at the beach.
We provide all the gear needed for a fun safe day at the beach. You only need to bring your personal items, such as a towel, change of clothes, etc. At the end of the day, we provide a hot lunch for our participants and volunteers. Finally, we wrap up the day with our award ceremony, a fun-filled celebration of success where each participant receives a Best Day team surfer medal and goodie bag. After the ceremony our participant families are free to leave and then we break down & load up. We are of the beach by 2 pm.
We have opportunities to make a real difference for every volunteer, and consistently hear from our volunteers that they had their best day, which is why most of our volunteers join us on a regular basis.
*** To sign up to volunteer, all you have to do is follow the steps found at this link:

Description
Our programs empower local volunteers with the infrastructure, education and training to create scalable, self-sustaining programs that deliver safe outdoor experiences to children with special needs. Current activities include surfing, bodyboarding, kayaking, stand up paddling (SUP), snow sports, and more.
We serve children aged 4-24 with any physical or developmental special need including Autism, Cerbral Palsy, Down syndrome, blindness, spinal cord injuries, cancer, and more.
Our community volunteers, who are integral to each event, often say that their experience volunteering is as fun and life-changing for them as it is for the children they help.
Current Best Day chapters serve Florida, New Jersey, and California (Ventura, Orange County, San Diego, and Santa Barbara areas).
As of April, 2016 the organization has held 147 events serving more than 5,000 children with special needs with the help of thousands of community volunteers who have contributed over 94,000 hours of community service. Once you join us you will be hooked... at least that's what our volunteers keep telling us. What are you waiting for... let's get started!
