Our week long summer camp is designed to enrich the lives of children in foster care by creating experiences that are meaningful, empowering, and fun. Each camper is paired with one counselor for the entire week and this 1-to-1 counselor-camper framework builds trust throughout the week. Along the way, our campers come out of their shells, responding positively to attention, guidance, affirmation, and direction. All activities focus on developing a positive self-image, improving interpersonal skills, and increasing feelings of achievement. In addition to the traditional camp activities - arts & crafts, biking, boating, fishing, swimming, and horseback riding - there are self-esteem classes and a variety of evening programs. Campers are loved and encouraged to define their true potential, develop meaningful relationships, and discover a support system that will last for years to come. Our life-changing programs take place at a state of the art facility through our partnership with Camp Twin Lakes, located in Rutledge, GA.
At Camp Horizon, counselors are paired with one camper for the entire week so that the camper can experience undivided, positive attention from an adult. Counselors are expected to be positive, enthusiastic, resilient, and nurturing. Summer camp will be from July 6-12, 2019 and all volunteers are expected to be there the entire time.
