JOIN exists to support the efforts of homeless individuals and families to transition out of homelessness into permanent housing. Our efforts are directed at individuals sleeping outside or in their car in the Portland Metro area. Our service provision is not dependent on age, gender, race, ethnicity, faith, culture, language, sexual identity, specific diagnosis, or identifiable issue.
Administrative volunteer duties vary according to need, can include data entry, office organization, help with mailings, etc. Ongoing volunteers preferred. Monday-Friday between 9 am to 5 pm.

Mission Statement
JOIN exists to spark and support the efforts of homeless people to move off the street and into permanent housing. We envision a community where homelessness is a short-term circumstance rather than a long-term or chronic condition
Description
JOIN is working to end chronic homelessness. We do this by placing outreach workers on the street who seek out and engage homeless people. By building personal relationships and providing basic services such as showers, laundry vouchers, ID, storage and bus tickets we create a supportive environment from which people can work to access housing. Within this environment we will help people in their job searches or in applying for benefits to which they are eligible. At the point that they can pay rent on an ongoing basis we will pay application fees and move-in expenses. Most importantly, we will advocate with local landlords regarding previous eviction, criminal or bad credit records. Last year we helped 369 individuals move off the street into permanent housing. The vast majority of these placements were into open market housing, not publicly supported housing programs. We continue to stay in touch with people for at least 12 months and provide supportive retention services to help people achieve housing stability.
