ORGANIZATION: The Salvation Army of Sarasota County

  • To the best of your ability, you will help students in grades K-12 to feel more confident in being able to work on, and complete, their school assignments.
  • Children come to the Community Center for academic reasons, but also to have fun and hang out. Part of your duties is to make their After School experience a positive one.
  • Assist in Gym and Enrichment activities.
  • Work with one student, several students, or in a small group as needed.

The Salvation Army of Sarasota County provides:

  • Emergency Financial Assistance - a preemptive step to stop crisis before families and individuals become homeless.
  • Pathway of Hope - helping families overcome barriers like unemployment, unstable housing and lack of education.
  • Life Recovery Programs - provides individualized, life-saving services to adult men and women who are homeless, addicted to drugs or alcohol, or are incarcerated.
  • Quality of Life - proactive housing-focused services, to include an emergency shelter for adults 18 and older.
  • Community Centers - youth programs, community fellowship groups, senior programs, summer camps, group worship meetings, and afterschool programs.
  • Food Pantries - in Venice and North Port
  • A Thrift Store - in Venice

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 14
  • Mondays through Fridays 2:00-6:00 Two to three days per week (Monday-Friday). You may choose to volunteer on more than 3 days.
  • Possess a passion for helping students learn and have the knowledge and skills to help them find new ways to look at difficult skills and concepts. Patience is a must
