STEM in the Park

STEM programs are designed to introduce young people to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills that are useful in the modern workplace.

STEM in the Park with The Library is a 4 to 5 week summer program that offers the opportunity to create, learn, meet peers and enjoy the outdoors at Travers Park on Pine St.

Our Children's Librarian would love to work with 1-2 volunteers on this summer's STEM in the Park series (dates and times TBD).

There are potentially two roles:

  1. The planning process.
  2. Running or assisting with the program.
Each role can be filled individually with two separate volunteers (one to plan, one to run or assist at events) or with one volunteer eager to be a part of the entire process beginning to end.

Here's a break-down of the responsibilities:

· Identifies STEM themes and locates age-appropriate activities that fall into those themes

· Creates materials lists in appropriate time frame

· Prepares family-friendly directions and creates samples or demos

· Sets up and cleans up programming area

· Creates safe & welcoming atmosphere, including chatting with parents, introducing kids to each other, and getting kids and families excited STEM

· Effectively demonstrates and assists kids in experimenting a variety of STEM activities

· Maintains "classroom management" - establishes structure, keeps momentum; responds to group and individual needs, navigating difficulties

· Administers program evaluations

If you love working with children, and are ready for a fun and fulfilling challenge, get started by clicking on the "I want to help!" button at the top of this page.
