The Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) Program provides face-to-face support and advocacy for individuals who have been sexually assaulted. Follow-up intervention to to provide advocacy for sexual assault victims through the legal process also is available. This service is offered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Victim Advocates receive an outstanding training, meet other volunteers with similar interests, gain familiarity with the many social services in the Truckee Meadows and have the opportunity to really make an impact in the lives of others. This truly is a life-changing experience--for volunteers and the victims.
Training to become an advocate lasts about one month (evenings and one weekend) and includes 40 hours of instruction. Trainees are also required to participate in one eight-hour law enforcement ride-a-long.
