We are taking student applications but our opportunities are very limited at this time.
- Currently we are working on an "Adopt a Veteran" program for students to do virtual visits with Veterans interested in this. Contact us for an application. This will be an ongoing work in progress as we add interested Veterans in, we will match them up with a student volunteer.
- You will need to have the ability to connect via a social media app such as Zoom, FB messenger, etc.
- Students may also paint mini canvases and rocks with positive messages, have donation drives for items for our Veterans in need.
- You may also present a project idea to us to consider and if approved, you can get credit for all the time/hours you put into the project to completion.

Mission Statement
Orlando VA Voluntary Service is committed to the development of volunteer programs in support of quality, Veteran focused care through the recruitment of volunteers, utilization of community resources, and active involvement and engagement of community stakeholders, with our Veterans. On March 3, 1865, a month before the Civil War ended, President Abraham Lincoln authorized the first-ever national soldiers’ and sailors’ asylum to provide medical and convalescent care for discharged members of the Union Army and Navy volunteer forces. The asylum was the first of its kind in the world to provide civilian medical care to Veterans of temporary volunteer forces. This is where the VA originated from.
Description
Today’s Veterans Health Administration (VHA) originated during the Civil War as the first federal hospitals and Domiciliaries ever established for the nation’s volunteer military forces.
Our goal is to ensure that the volunteer experience at the OVAMC is as rewarding to the volunteer as it is beneficial to the patients, families, visitors, and caregivers.
Our Volunteers provide important functions throughout the OVAMC to help make our patients’ visits a more enjoyable one. Through the on-boarding process each volunteer’s talents and skills are closely matched with one of our wide variety of assignments. To learn more about this process and how you can begin to serve our nation’s Veterans at the OVAMC
