Our hospice patient may remind you of your Grandmother, Aunt, or a dear friend. Her family is either living in another city, or perhaps they work full time which prevents them from visiting as often as they would like. Would you consider a 30 minute(or more) visit a few times a month? You might talk about this patient's family, life review, historic events in her life, or whatever the topic the two of you may find! It will be an enriching experience for both of you, and one that you will cherish as you provide companionship to a lonely "granny"
Initial training, a background check/ drug screening, and tuberculosis screening are required prior to visiting a Hospice patient at no cost to the volunteer. Volunteers do not provide any type of hands on care for our patients. You simply provide companionship!
