The Senior Companion Program provides one on one assistance to the frail, elderly, developmentally disabled and other "special persons" who require supportive services because of exceptional needs. They provide daily contact that focuses on activities and reducing the need for costly and other unnecessary institutionalization.
The Senior Companion Program offers stipends to low income peroson aged 55 and older that provide community volunteer service opportunities providing bi-weekly tax free stipends based at $2.65 hourly. Volunteers serve clients in their homes for 20-40 hours a week. Transportation vouchers provided monthy.

Mission Statement
The Baltimore City Health Department Division of Aging and Care Services offers a variety of services and initiatives to improve the lives of seniors in Baltimore, including health evaluation, personal care, transportation and volunteer opportunities. The Division of Aging & Care Services serves as the local Area Agency on Aging (AAA)/Maryland Access Point (MAP) and allows the organization to receive funds from the federal Older Americans Act to coordinate and assure an adequate service delivery system. CARE's structure includes twenty-four (24) commissioners, eighteen (18) of whom are appointed by the Mayor and six (6) of whom are ex-officio members, who serve to advise and assist CARE in its overall mission and direction. Commissioners advise and work with the Executive Director to promote agency efficiency and coordinate the delivery of programs and services for the elderly in Baltimore City.

The Senior Companion Program (SCP) offer volunteers an opportunity to provide one-on-one assistance to the frail elderly, the developmentally disabled, and other "special persons" who require supportive services because of exceptional needs. They provide daily contacts that focus on activities and reducing the need for costly and other unnecessary institutionalization.
Benefits:
