Committee Profile, Roles and Responsibilities
Black Ties for Babies, an annual night of giving, offers signature dishes from some of Boston’s most notable restaurants, complimentary wine pairings, entertainment, a fun and interactive auction, and an honoree celebration presenting the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Humanitarian Awards to notable Bostonians for their dedication to the March of Dimes mission and our population.
Committee Profile
The Black Ties for Babies Committee is composed of individuals who are committed to the March of Dimes mission, bring expertise in a variety of key areas and offer diverse perspectives. The purpose of the committee is to raise funds for the March of Dimes through Black Ties for Babies ensuring the established annual goals are met. The ideal committee members will have the following qualifications:
- Significant presence in the community through their business or involvement in other organizations.
- Well respected, well known, and maintains a good reputation within the community.
- A track record of accomplishing goals.
- A philanthropic background and experience working with non-profits, preferably as an active volunteer.
- Commitment to the March of Dimes mission.
- A willingness to introduce new, philanthropic prospects to the March of Dimes.
- Past experience soliciting corporations or individuals for gifts. Must have the ability and willingness to personally approach funding sources, bring in new donor prospects and work to upgrade past donors.
Committee Roles and Responsibilities
The Black Ties for Babies committee develops and implements revenue driven strategies in the following areas:
- Sponsorship
Develop a list of prospects who have the capacity to give at $5,000 or more, preferably $10,000+. Committee members ideally support the event with a specified sponsorship from their business or as an individual, and/or commit to solicit a specified amount in sponsorships from their contacts.
- Auction
Secure unique, high-end items for the live and silent auctions, valued at $1,000+. Ideal items include one-of-a-kind items or experiences that cannot be otherwise purchased.
- Fund the Mission
During the evening program at Black Ties for Babies, we share a story of a family who has been impacted by the March of Dimes mission. Following the story, we ask guests to "fund the mission" with a gift to the March of Dimes. The Black Ties for Babies committee works with the March of Dimes in advance of the event to identify guests who will commit to $1,000+ Fund the Mission gifts.

Description
Every day 1 in 8 babies born in the U.S. arrives too soon. Premature birth can happen to any pregnant woman, and no one knows why. It is a serious, common and costly problem. The March of Dimes is leading the campaign to reduce premature birth by supporting research and by educating the public and health care providers.
