There are currently 3 Foster Care Review Boards in North Platte. We are seeking 6-8 board members to fill recent vacancies on the 3 boards. Board are meeting in person with an option of attending virtually at using Zoom. These are Volunteer positions, but attendance is important.
The FCRO is a state agency, separate from the judicial branch, from the Department of Health and Human Services, and from Probation so it can review, assess, report, and make recommendations without any influence from other agencies or departments regarding the child/youth’s case review.
These board members review case summaries of 4-5 cases of children in foster care each month to provide another set of eyes on the case and offer recommendations regarding next steps and services that may help the case move forward so that permanency with the parent/s can be re-established sooner, or in cases where the return to the parent is not possible, provide recommendations so that other permanency can occur.
Each board meets the same day and time each month. Commitment, confidentiality, and monthly attendance is important.
We are looking for individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities and professions. Must be over the age of 21. Individuals with community knowledge, and also those with backgrounds to do with medical, mental health, social worker, education, substance abuse, domestic violence, housing, and other areas which impact the families of children in foster care. This is important as we continue to develop diverse, boards made up of caring, resourceful, and committed community volunteers.
The Foster Care Review Office is a State Agency put in place by the Nebraska Legislature to provide oversight of the Child Welfare System. As part of our mandate, we have 54 Citizen Review Boards across Nebraska that review the cases of children and youth in foster care. The Foster Care Review Office’s Mission is to provide oversight of the child welfare and juvenile justice systems by tracking and reviewing children in out-of-home care, reporting on aggregate outcomes, and advocating on individual and systemic levels to ensure that children’s best interests and safety needs are met. Description
The Foster Care Review Office is an independent state agency put in place by the Legislature in 1982. The FCRO has been given the authority and responsibility for reviewing cases of children in out-of-home care through Department of Health and Human Services, Juvenile Probation, or on a Trial Home Visit through DHHS, and making required recommendations regarding the plan for the child’s future (known as the permanency plan), services for the child and family, and the appropriateness and safety of the child’s placement (foster home, group home, detention facility, or specialized facility). Central to all recommendations is what is in the best interest of the child.

- Expect to spend 4 hours reviewing the cases and preparing for the meeting. Board mtgs last 2.5 - 3 hrs, 1x a month, at the same time, day, and site. Attendance, confidentiality, and a non-biased attitude is extremely important.
- Board members will go through a background check with DHHS Central Registry and attend training prior to being assigned to a board. Must have a computer and internet access at home to review the cases on our secure SharePoint site.
