We are a non-profit organization dealing with literacy and basic education programs in various countries. The origin of Alfalit came from missionaries in Cuba. They developed a Reading Primer to be used to teach people how to read in Spanish. They printed the first primer in Costa Rica and began using it circa 1961. From there the Reading Primer led to the development of Writing books and other materials. Over the years, many different educational materials (books) have been developed based on the core of the original Spanish versions of the books. Those books have also been revised several times to include updated graphics and revisions in content.
Many of the books in our programs have been developed at different times over the years and translated into other languages. Newer books have also been developed and created by different volunteers or works made for hire for Alfalit.

We are looking for assistance in attaining copyrights for our educational materials if possible with pro bono work.

Description

Alfalit International, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization registered in the State of Florida. Founded in 1961, we change lives through literacy, basic education, early childhood development, job skills, and conversational English in Central & South America, the Caribbean, Africa, Portugal, and the United States of America where we focus on the literacy and conversational English needs of adult immigrants. The majority of our students are adults but we also reach out to youth and preschoolers when funding allows us to do so. All of our students are poor and many live in the remotest of areas. Our classes are taught in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Haitian-Creole as well as some indigenous languages. While faith-based, Alfalit welcomes all religious affiliations (or none at all) to join our classes as students and teachers.
