Healing for our veterans & shelter animals

The Philadelphia Chapter of Pets for Vets is looking for volunteer certified dog trainers in the Philadelphia area. Our Chapter, part of the national Pets for Vets, provides companion (NOT service) animals to our military Veterans free of charge. Briefly we are looking for committed trainers who:

  • Can establish a rapport and meet with a Veteran several times to ascertain her/his needs;
  • Can comfortably evaluate and select appropriate dogs from shelters and rescues;
  • Can commit to scientifically sound, positive reinforcement, non-forced basic obedience training methods;
  • Have excellent communication skills;
  • Have a minimum of two years experience working in animal training; and
  • Have the appropriate education/credentials in the training field and knowledge with dog assessment tools.
Our mission is to help a Veteran adapt back to civilian life with a canine companion to ease some stress and anxiety.
