About:

The Blossom Project and Downtown Streets Team are partnering to do a pilot project, to give women experiencing homelessness the emotional and physical tools necessary to empower their lives.

Blossom are a non-profit organization working in US and Denmark to create better conditions for homeless, refugee, and sex-trafficked women. Here in SF, Marin, Berkeley and Oakland, we are tackling the issue of period poverty (when women can't afford things like menstrual pads) and helping homeless women by providing menstrual care packages;

We are doing a pilot project named Blooming Room in collaboration with the non Profit,Downtown Street Team. The Program is a women empowerment project. The purpose of the program is to give women who experience homelessness the emotional and physical tools necessary to empower their lives.

The purpose of Blooming Room is to create an atmosphere of inclusion and community where vulnerable women feel safely grounded to rebuild their lives again. This pivotal life transformation is generated by strengthening self-confidence, highlighting skills and competencies that women already possess and supporting them in acquiring new ones.

Through Blooming Room, women uncover opportunities to prepare for their future by discovering and believing in their own resources. Blooming Room activities also support women in finding positive relationships and building healthy communities.

Mission Statement

Blossom is a non profit that through relationship-building work to create better conditions for homeless women, through prevention programs: - Hygiene bags that seek to help homeless women managing their menstruation. - Outreach team to make contact with the women and promote health. - Blooming room, a project where women have the opportunity to prepare for their future by finding and believing their own resources

Description

The idea to launch Blossom Project formed in 2016 as the founder was reading articles about the many hardships that homeless women endure. She was filled with deep compassion as she realized the added difficulties that homeless women face attempting to maintain personal dignity and good sanitary habits, especially during their monthly feminine periods.

Since the summer of 2016, Blossom Project has made its mission to support homeless women, inspired as a response to the sizable number of women facing life on the streets invisible in the shadows of our communities.

"I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do."
