America Needs You fights for economic mobility for ambitious, first generation college students. We do this by providing transformative mentorship and intensive career development. Our flagship Scholars Program is a two-year, intensive mentoring and professional training program where first-generation students ("Scholars") are paired with young professional volunteers. We operate in California, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York.

Mentor Coach Volunteers develop a one-on-one mentoring relationship with a low-income, first-generation college student (Scholar), working with them at 28 professional development workshops to cultivate their strengths, interests, and passions into successful careers. Mentor Coaches prepare students for selective internships through a structured career development curriculum.

Time commitment: 7 Saturdays a year for 2 years

Eligibility:

• I want to mentor ambitious, low-income, first-generation college students in their personal and professional development.
• I am passionate about giving back to the community.
• I am available to attend career development workshops 7 Saturdays (4 during the summer, 3 during the academic year) per year for 2 years (schedules vary by site).
• I am a college graduate with 3+ years of work experience, willing to share my industry expertise and network.

Selection Timeline

• Priority Deadline: March 15, 2019
• Finalist Interviews: Mid-April
• Notification of Acceptance: By May 31, 2019
