The Muse Writers Center, a non-profit organization for new and experienced Hampton Roads writers, is seeking enthusiastic volunteers for our senior outreach program on Monday afternoons, 2-3pm. This opportunity is for writers of any age who are passionate about sharing writing with seniors in the Hampton Roads community. Activities range from individual pairings, to group workshops, and can include reading to seniors, assisting with creative writing workshops, leading writing exercises, promoting Muse events, talking craft, and listening to stories. It is our goal to spread the joys of creative writing with all members of the Hampton Roads community. Contact Shawn Girvan at: shawn@the-muse.org

Mission Statement

The Muse Writers Center--a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation--is dedicated to broadening community awareness and support of the literary arts. In addition to offering writing classes and hosting readings and events, The Muse is a resource center and a place for all writers in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area to come together, share ideas, and figure out what language can hold.

Description

Muse Creative Writing Classes are designed by our teachers for writers of all ages, backgrounds, and experience. Offerings include those in poetry, fiction, memoir, creative non-fiction, screenwriting, playwriting, comic book writing, children's book writing, and grammar. The Muse's instructors are all working writers and published authors who have taught courses at colleges, universities, and other community organizations. At the end of each workshop or studio session, The Muse hosts free, public readings in the Norfolk, Virginia (VA) area, which give all of our workshop and studio participants the opportunity to present their work to a supportive audience. The Muse is dedicated to broadening community awareness and support of the literary arts. In addition to offering writing classes, The Muse is a resource center and a place for all writers in the Norfolk, Virginia (Hampton Roads, VA) area to come together, share ideas, and figure out what language can hold.
