Calling All Crafters! Make Fidget Mats for SJ Hospice Alzheimer's & Dementia Patients
While you're sheltering in place, we continue to welcome your volunteer support during this challenging time. Samaritan is looking for people with big hearts and generous spirits to join our volunteer team.
Volunteer from the comfort of your own home!
Do you like to sew or quilt? Use your special skills to support our patients by making fidget mats to provide sensory and tactile stimulation for the restless hands of our Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients. Fidget mats offer exercise, increase focus, reduce anxiety, soothe and calm nerves, and provide comfort. Please make sure items are securely attached.
Consider both men and women when choosing fabrics and accessories such as:
- Textured fabrics
- Pockets with an attached object that can be put in and pulled out or pockets with zippers
- Lacing, etc.
- Sports items
- Stuffed animals
- Child-sized, plastic, light-weight Tools
- Child-sized, plastic, Kitchen utensils (whisk, spoon, spatula)
**NO small objects such as buttons or beads that patients can pull off and potentially eat.
Need more information? Have questions? Please email Sharon Wenner, swenner@SamaritanNJ.org.
You may deliver the fidget mats Monday - Friday, 9a-4p or mail to:
