This is the annual benefit and art auction for the Center for Book Arts, our mission is to promote contemporary and traditional artistic practices related to the book as object. We provide studio space and equipment to a variety of artists, host courses and workshops, talks, exhibitions and artists in residence. The benefit event is Thursday April 4th. There is a gallery display of silent auction items while passed hors d' and an open bar are available to our patrons -the event is held in the Center itself. The event starts at 6pm, around 7 we have remarks from the Director, our artist honoree and the founder. At 7:30 we commence the live auction (and briefly halt the food and drink service); we have a great gal from Christie's who has done this for us the past couple of years. Live auction should conclude around 8:30pm.
We need assistance with the following: coat check, food servers, art packers (like wrapping presents), and folks to hold up select artwork for the live auction (Vanna White style).

About Center for Book Arts
Location:

Mission Statement
The Center for Book Arts is committed to exploring and cultivating contemporary aesthetic interpretations of the book as an art object while invigorating traditional artistic practices of the art of the book. The Center seeks to facilitate communication between the book arts community and the larger spheres of contemporary art and literature through exhibitions, classes, public programming, literary presentations, opportunities for artists and writers, publications, and collecting. Founded in 1974, it was the first organization of its kind in the nation.
Description
The Center for Book Arts' work is channeled through five program areas: exhibitions related to the arts of the book; lectures on topics of interest to book artists and craftspeople; a modest publication schedule; services to artists, both established and emerging and, much the most prominent currently, an extensive offering of classes. Each year the Center offers three terms of courses, workshops and seminars taught by experienced book artists, and providing hands-on training in all aspects of traditional and contemporary bookmaking, including bookbinding, letterpress printing, papermaking, and other associated arts.
