Program 3287AM-A
Date: Tuesday, April 12th
Time: 10:30 - 11:20 AM
Volunteer Role: Writing Coach
About the program: Seventh-graders read Yasmin’s Hammer by Ann Malaspina , about a Bangladeshi girl who longs to go to school, but must work to help support her family. To draw connections between her story and accounts of child labor in 1900’s America, students will learn about the dangerous working conditions and other human rights abuses endured by children today and in the past. Coaches will guide groups in editing essays that compare and contrast child labor in Bangladesh with that in the U.S. in the early 20th century.
